SACRED GROVE

Unbuilt: Competition completed in 2024

Designed for the commission to build Burning Man's temple, the Sacred Grove is a stand of 80 “trees” supporting 184 “branches”, inside of which a series of spaces have been created for both individual and collective mourning, tribute, connection and renewal.

Based on our earliest sacred spaces before the language of religious structures supplanted them, sacred groves were common across global cultures. Their names and rituals varied, but all were considered magical places of healing and power. The sacred grove is a return to that common, pre-urbanized past.
