DETAILS
Designed to mimic the environmental qualities of a bedouin tent, the buildings’ enclosed spaces begin one floor above grade, leaving the ground floor as a series of “tent gardens” that pull cool air from earth ducts into shaded semi-outdoor spaces, in which the stack effect pulls cool are into the gardens while hot air exits the atrium tops. All unprotected glazed surfaces face inward, never exposed to direct sun in the world’s hottest inhabited urban center. The rough-hewn stone brises soleil on the exterior façade naturally protect windows from the hot sun and glare inside the classrooms.
